Republics[edit]

Need your help and/or advice. The British Wikipedian Republican Party sought fit to delete Wikinfo:Classical definition of republic from Wikipedia. There is a terrible brouhaha at Talk:Republic. They won't even allow an external link! SimonP really doesn't know what he is doing. They deleted the Classical definition of republic and created mixed government and politeia instead. The official title of mixed government is a Republic and the Romans translated "politiea" as Republic. And then to top it off the new article Classical republicanism doesn't refer to the Classical republics of Crete, Sparta, Solonic Athens, or Rome but to Machiavelli's ideology. How can that be when Venice in the 13th century instituted a mixed government and called herself a "Republic".

With Jwrosenwieg and Kim Bruning there was a tacit agreement a year ago to have republic be the modern meaning and a [Classical definition of republic] to describe the ancient republics of Hellas and Rome and their influence. To say the least the "Republic section" is all messed up. We need some clarification. I have new information but User:Snowspinner won't let me bring this back up for undelete. (I do grant that a little bit of the Classical definition is original but the rest is not.) I will not let Sparta be called anything but a republic! I will not let the British wikipedian modern republicans strip Sparta, (my heritage and roots) of her rightful name. She is a Classical republic and needs to be called such! At the least, where is the damage in having an external link?WHEELER 15:13, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Russian Medals/Orders[edit]

Hey Klemen, nice work on puttin the IW links on several pages. To let you know, if you need some help (or a few images) for medals, orders, ribbons from this subject, just let me know. Zscout370 17:48, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! I'll let you know if (and when) I need something for articles. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 18:47, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Speedy deletions[edit]

Please check article histories before tagging articles for speedy deletion. You have tagged a few like Persian Pearl that were the victims of vandalism, and should be restored to their previous state and not deleted. -- Cyrius| 21:08, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

And also Marian Anderson (though most of the speedy deletes are fine). Thue | talk 21:11, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

Jap, that's my fault. When I came to blank page, I just tag 'em, without looking any history. Will do next time. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 05:23, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

And also Harold Solomon apparently. Can it be restored? Bruxism 01:01, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Geo-stubs[edit]

Hi Klemen - I notice you've just added stub templates to several articles on Bulgaria (thank you!). For future reference, there is a separate geo-stub for places in Bulgaria ({{Bulgaria-geo-stub}}), which will make them even easier for editors to find. Grutness...wha? 01:46, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

OK, will do next time. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 05:20, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

Slovenian/Slovene[edit]

Please stop replacing Slovenian with Slovene. Nevermind the fact Slovene is discouraged for being incorrect (i.e. copied from French, unnatural, against English conventions, etc), the Frankie Yankovic article BEGAN using the preferred Slovenian term, and it will end that way. BT2 13:36, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • The characterization of Slovene is the matter of a lively dispute at Talk:Slovenians. You are invited to help us reach a resolution there. In the meantime, edits made solely to change Slovenia/Slovenians to Slovene/Slovenes are likely to rankle some participants in the debate. Dystopos 19:12, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

TfD nomination of Template:Military-divisions[edit]

Template:Military-divisions has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. -Splash 21:20, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

Bot block[edit]

I've blocked KocjoBot. It appears to be removing valid interwiki links to articles in the ast: wikipedia, such as this edit. --Carnildo 18:27, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

I noticed that too. Probably because the "article" has just 2 links and category. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 18:45, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

OK, I changed the script, so you can lift the block. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 18:50, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

BTW You have blocked IP-address and not just a KocjoBot, so I can't use this account. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 19:00, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

I've unblocked the bot and the IP address. Sorry about that; the autoblocker makes it tricky to block just an account, not the IP address as well. --Carnildo 20:12, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

Podhalańczyk[edit]

One of my favourite subjects :) The very term refers to a person from the region of Podhale, that is the Polish side of the Tatra Mountains. In Polish military tradition, before WWII there were two Mountain Infantry divisions and several smaller units that were formed mostly of people from mountain regions of Poland. The Podhalańczycy (plural) were those serving in the Polish 21st Infantry Division and were notable both for their high morale and... distinctive uniforms. They were one of only two infantry units wearing non-standard uniforms based on Mountaneer folk garment rather than military uniforms (the other unit was composed of people from Eastern Carpathians).

After the war the traditions of the 21st Division are sustained by modern 21st Brigade, which could be roughly translated as Polish 21st Brigade of Podhale Rifles, though I've also seen other translations of that name. Note that they still do wear their own uniforms rather than standard Polish ones (check their webpage; it's in Polish but there is a gallery there). Feel free to contact me should you need more info. Halibutt 21:44, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

BTW, as to your question of sharpshooters... well, not exactly. The Podhalańczycy are even nowadays regarded as elite soldiers, but they are mostly regarded as tough guys, some sort of Polish Gurkhas. But the term itself, though quite prestigious, does not have any other meaning but the one I explained above - men from Podhale. And no, you don't have to be born in Podhale to join that unit any more - though most of those who do indeed are from there. Halibutt 21:51, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
For your pleasure: compare folk garment with modern uniforms of Podhalańczycy: here (in Divaniya, Iraq!), here and here. Halibutt 21:55, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! On Slovene WP someone started article sl:Strzelcy podhalańscy, but then one of admins moved it to sl:Gorski ostrostrelec (Mountain sniper). It had different date, that you have confirmed; that the new title is wrong. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 23:39, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Another English translation of "21 Brygada Strzelców Podhalańskich" for your consideration: "21st Highland Rifle Brigade." logologist 02:18, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Yup. With the difference being that the Highland Rifle Bde could also refer to any other highlands in the world, while Podhale is pretty specific. Anyway, I'm happy I could help. Halibutt 02:24, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
BTW, take a look at Polish 22nd Mountain Infantry Division :) Halibutt 03:34, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
...and at Podhale rifles :) Halibutt 14:39, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Ja, I saw the article today, what the iw was added to Slovene article. Nice. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 18:11, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Slovenian Armed Forces's Military Ranks Insignias[edit]

As you're author of these insignias on :commons, could you also done CO's and Generals ranks (so far I found only Soldier's and NCO's ranks - I collected them here). You could find CO's and General's insignia on Slovene insignia. If you have already done them, could you direct me to them? Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 12:02, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Oh thats easy, I ment to move those images to commons, if you can do that for me you will make me very very happy, its just too much work for me :)
Images are avalible in Ranks and insignia of NATO, I have only completed "Army Officer" and "Army Enlisted", I intend to do air force, navy, and others sometime.
There is a naming convention you should use (trust me this makes things easy on the long run) to rename the images so they all are standardly named. The convention for officers is xx-Army-OF#.gif where xx is the country code and # is the NATO code. Ex: Image:US-Army-OF9.gif. Enlisted follow this: Image:US-Army-OR9a.gif --Cool CatTalk|@ 12:15, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Well, SAF uses one set of insignia, so you have one Armed Force completed ;). I'll moved them according to others, you've already move (on licence and so one). Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 12:23, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

So, what do you think? Is it OK? Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 12:39, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Cute, i really like it however you may want to use tables instead of gallerys, bah Ill fix it :) --Cool CatTalk|@ 12:43, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

I will do that, however I want to do all airforce and navy insignias in the process :) You may like Ranks and insignia of NATO --Cool CatTalk|@ 04:00, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Help needed[edit]

Hi, I need some help in an SQL related subject. There is a wiki-project in the Greek Wikipedia (Βικιπαίδεια), to put interlanguage links in as many articles as possible called el:Βικιπαίδεια:Επιχείρηση Interwiki (wikiproject interwiki). I have found a page on pages without interwikis, here, however, it is not automatically updated. In fact that page is about 9 months old. The person who made it, said he used SQL, but when he tried this time he got stuck. Could you please run a query for articles which do not have interwikis and save the result here? It would be a great help for our wikiproject. Many thanks in advance. (PS: en:User:GregorB was kind enough to find out that you have done this in the past, so that I knock the right door, then I left this message at sl:Uporabniški pogovor:Klemen Kocjancic/Foreign Talk and Andrejj, suggested that I see here)--FocalPoint 07:32, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Information.svg Hello Klemen Kocjancic! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 1,627 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Hi, I'd ask you, why did you block my IP address on sl.wp but not just my bot - DEagleBot? Therefore I can't create bot's user page and ask for unblock.
So, please, unblock my IP. --Dark Eagle (talk) 21:11, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm not a god (or bot) to create userpages in all languages in one moment. I do that as fast as I can (firstly in wikis where it did more than 5 edits). But block by bot (username) would be more useful. However, this is a good lesson for us both =) --Dark Eagle (talk) 06:47, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Svetlana Broz, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Yugoslavian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Removing "of" from quotations[edit]

This edit to the article for Lavallette, New Jersey removed the word "of" from the text "February of 1878". The issue is that the wording is in the middle of a quotation inside a reference; There was nothing that needed to be fixed. Other edits you have made have also "fixed" problems where there was none. I thank you for your efforts to correct the problem where it appears in article prose, but please do not make corrections to quotations. Alansohn (talk) 21:13, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the head's up. I'll be more careful for quotes. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic (talk) 21:15, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
